Mengapa Disebut Ayat Kursi, Apa Arti Kursi di Sini?

Disebut ayat kursi (آيَةُ الْكُرْسِىِّ) karena di dalam ayat 255 surat Al Baqarah ini ada kalimat (kata) kursiyyuhu (كُرْسِيُّهُ).

Lalu apa arti kursi pada ayat ini? Dalam Tafsir Al Munir, Syaikh Wahbah Az Zuhaili menjelaskan bahwa makna asal Al Kursi adalah Al ‘Ilmu (ilmu). Oleh karena itu para ulama disebut juga dengan sebutan al karaasi karena mereka adalah orang-orang yang dijadikan pegangan atau sandaran.

Pendapat lain yang juga dikutip Syaikh Wahbah menyebutkan, yang dimaksud dengan Al Kursi dalam ayat 255 Surat Al Baqarah adalah keagungan Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Jadi tidak ada apa namanya al kursi (kursi atau tempat duduk), tidak ada al qu’ud (duduk) dan tidak ada al qaa’id (yang duduk). Hal ini seperti firman Allah dalam Surat Az Zumar ayat 67.

وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَالسَّماوَاتُ مَطْوِيَّاتٌ بِيَمِينِهِ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

“Dan mereka tidak mengagungkan Allah dengan pengagungan yang semestinya padahal bumi seluruhnya dalam genggaman-Nya pada hari kiamat dan langit digulung dengan tangan kanan-Nya. Mahasuci Dia dan Mahatinggi Dia dari apa yang mereka persekutukan.” (QS. Az Zumar: 67)

Pendapat lainnya menyebutkan bahwa yang dimaksud dengan Al Kursi di sini adalah kerajaan dan kekuasaan Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Hasan Al Bashri berpendapat yang dimaksud Al Kursi di dalam ayat ini adalah arsy.

Sedangkan Ibnu Katsir dalam tafsirnya mengatakan, “yang benar adalah bahwa Al Kursi bukanlah arsy karena arsy lebih besar dari al kursi sebagaimana dijelaskan oleh beberapa hadits dan atsar.
